I don't know how much I'll be writing here, but I thought I should do an intro post to give a little background on me for when I do.
My name is Brenda Appleby. I'm... almost 31. (Which is difficult to comprehend.) I'm currently living with my parents in a suburb of St. Louis, MO, while I am applying for jobs as a seasonal interpretive ranger/guide in the National Parks. My sister Joanne lives about five minutes away, so we hang out a lot.
As you might guess from my career choice, I love nature and the outdoors. I actually have another blog, naturebrenda.blogspot.com, where I have been posting photos and descriptions of natural areas I have worked and visited. I wanted to reserve that blog just for nature writings and pictures, so I started this in case I want to write out a rant or an essay on classical music or my favorite fairy tale adaptations or the time I got to meet Anne McCaffrey. (Seriously, all of these may come up!)
I also love to cook, so I have yet another blog where I've started posting my favorite recipes, at kitchenbrenda.blogspot.com.
Let's see, what else? I have a part time job at the Gateway Arch, which is flexible enough that I've been able to go out of town two summers in a row for seasonal positions in various places, and then return and get back on the schedule... it's been limited hours lately, because there's a lot of work going on right now, but it's good to have something.
I play viola in a local orchestra at Florissant Valley Community College - we just played our winter concert, but I may or may not play in the spring one, depending on when the summer job I am hoping to get will start.
And I read a lot of science fiction and fantasy, listen to country music - mainly older stuff - and love contra dancing (here's a video) - it's like square dancing, but in lines. Although sometimes we do squares, too.
I guess that's enough to start off with!
